Rafael Hernandez first came to Gracelight Community Health a few years ago on the recommendation of his brother, who had received care back when the clinic was known as QueensCare. “He told me to come get checked out,” Rafael said. “So, I decided to come and see how the service was—and ever since then, I’ve stayed.”
Now 73, Rafael says the care he’s received over the past 3 to 4 years has made a real difference in his life.
“It’s been good and also convenient because it’s close to home,” he said. “The staff are friendly, and Dr. Ming is very patient. You can tell she cares about her patients.”
One of the things that surprised Rafael the most was the level of attention and communication he received from the team, something that stood out compared to his experiences at other clinics.
“In the past, I felt like doors were being shut in my face when I tried to talk about how I felt,” he shared. “I had questions that were never answered. At Gracelight, they listen. They’ve helped better my health just by being attentive and willing to communicate.”
What really stood out to Rafael was how much support he received not just from the providers, but also from the clinic manager Yessenia.
“One time I came in with some questions, and she was available to hear me out. I didn’t expect that. On top of great patient care, they also helped me understand Medi-Cal and Medicare services. I had no idea how the process worked before coming here, and because of that help, I was able to get the medication I needed. I’m beyond grateful.”
When asked to describe the staff at Gracelight in one word, Rafael said:
“Helpful.” And for him, that makes all the difference.
“I’m happy to be a patient here, and I’ll continue to come back.”
