At 75 years old, Jose T. Perez has been a patient at Gracelight Community Health for more than 10 years, receiving care that has helped him stay healthy and feel supported. His home clinic is Gracelight’s Eagle Rock location, where he has built strong relationships with the providers and staff. From his very first visit, he was welcomed with kindness and attentiveness, which is why he has remained with Gracelight ever since.
“My experience has been great,” Jose says. “From the start, the service was welcoming and attentive, and that has never changed.”
Over the years, Gracelight has played a major role in helping Jose manage his health. While he used to visit the doctor more frequently, his condition has improved, and now he only comes in every two to three months for medication.
“Gracelight has helped so much with my health,” he shares. “I used to see the doctors very often, but now I only go every couple of months for my medication. I follow what the doctor tells me about nutrition—no candy, sugar, or bread. Since following their instructions, I have been able to sleep well, and I don’t have pain in my feet anymore.”
Beyond the medical care, what Jose appreciates most is how he is treated at every visit.
“They are always so nice,” he says. “I get there, and they are very welcoming. They always listen to me, accommodate my needs, and frankly, I enjoy talking to them.”
During a recent visit, while Jose was getting his check-up, he had a conversation with Dr. Myla Pineda entirely in Spanish. What started as a review of his medications naturally transitioned into a casual, lighthearted exchange. Witnessing two people from different cultural backgrounds engage so effortlessly in Spanish spoke to something deeper—Gracelight providers don’t just care for their patients, they connect with them. This ability to meet patients where they are, linguistically and culturally, is one of the many reasons why Gracelight continues to build strong relationships within the communities it serves.
When asked to describe the Gracelight staff in one word, Jose immediately responds: “Kind.”
For Jose, Gracelight is more than just a clinic—it’s a place where he feels heard, respected, and cared for at every step of his health journey.
