We are offering the third mRNA COVID-19 vaccine dose for immunocompromised persons.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that immunocompromised persons receive a third dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna) 28 days after the second dose. (If you received the Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine, there is no current recommendation to receive a second dose.)
Persons who qualify for the third dose include those who have:
- Been receiving cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Been diagnosed with moderate or severe immunodeficiency conditions (such as DiGeorge or Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- An advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Been under active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress the immune response
If you are unsure whether you qualify, please talk with your provider about your condition and when it might be best to receive the third dose of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccine during your ongoing treatment.
Persons should follow the same COVID-19 vaccine they previously received.
